NEW YORK--The NBA announced Thursday that an elbow thrown by Bill Laimbeer to the head of Robert Parish in a 1986 playoff game has been upgraded to a Flagrant 2, the most severe of the two flagrant fouls. In lieu of being ejected from the game, the former Piston will be fined $25,000. Said Laimbeer: “I don’t really think this is fair. For starters, that wasn’t a flagrant elbow. I was clearly going up for a rebound and Robert’s face got in the way of my elbow. Secondly, it was a long time ago. They didn’t even have flagrant fouls back then. They just had fouls. And we all seemed to get along just fine. Why mess with a good thing?” NBA exec Stu Jackson said the league is in the process of reviewing every foul committed in the history of the NBA in order to ensure the same chickenshit rules apply to everybody.
