VIERA, FL--Nationals rookie Stephen Strasburg, one of the best young pitchers in the major leagues, has some lofty aspirations for his major league career, most notably to have a surgery named after him like his hero, Tommy John. “I’ve been a big admirer of Tommy John for a long time,” said Strasburg. “He had a great major league career and was one of the most feared pitchers of his generation. But the biggest thing, obviously, was having a surgical procedure named after him. For years to come, Tommy’s name will be mentioned every time somebody screws up their elbow. My goal is to have a surgical procedure named after me. It won’t be easy but I’m confident I can do it. I’m standing on the shoulders of giants here – the mangled, stitched-together shoulders.”
