NEW YORK—MLB umpires are petitioning the league to do away with the Fox Pitch Tracker after several of them reported hearing the device laughing at them during the World Series. Joe West, who called balls and strikes during Games 1 and 4, said the pitch tracker made a mockery out of he and his colleagues. “This thing is making a mockery out of what we do,” West complained. “The other night, after I missed a strike call, I heard that stupid thing laughing at me as it showed the television audience how wrong I was. It was like ‘Ha ha ha ha’ in this big, boisterous, electronic voice. I swear I’m going to take a baseball bat to it one of these days.” MLB officials told West and the rest of the umpires that the pitch tracker was not laughing at them and, in fact, had no vocal chords and suggested they take the offseason to "clear their heads."
