Brushback NBA Mock Draft

Pick        Team           Pos.                               Player                                     College              Class
 1
C
Greg Oden
Ohio State
Fr.

This is the obvious choice for the Blazers, but that doesn’t mean they don’t have options. They could also send this pick to the Hawks, let him develop there for a few years and then sign him as a free agent when he escapes.

2
F
Kevin Durant
Texas
Fr.

I have to admit I was a bit surprised to see the Sonics get the second pick, mostly because I thought they left Seattle ten years ago and became the Memphis Grizzlies.

3
F
Brandan Wright
North Carolina
Fr.

After they get over the disappointment of missing out on Greg Oden, the Hawks should pick up the pieces and select Brandan Wright, a talented kid from UNC in the Chris Bosh mode. Then they should go back to being disappointed.

4
F
Al Horford
Florida
Sr.

It’s either Horford or Yi in this spot and I’m predicting it will be Horford because the Grizzlies have absolutely no sense of humor when it comes to picking players.

5
G
Corey Brewer
Florida
Jr.

It's kind of a convoluted trade idea, but I think the C’s should send this pick to Memphis for Pau Gasol and then flip him to Indiana for Jermaine O'Neal, who they can send over to Milwaukee for the sixth pick. That leaves them with a slightly lower pick, but they'll still be able to get Brewer or Yi so it’s not all bad.

6
G
Morris Almond
Rice
Sr.

Morris Almond would be the perfect fit for a Bucks team in need of any player whatsoever.

7
C
Roy Hibbert
Georgetown
Jr.

Roy Hibbert isn’t coming out this year, but that shouldn’t stop the Wolves from taking him, because he’ll be coming out next year and they’ll have the rights to him or something.

8
F
Nick Fazekas
Nevada
Sr.

They already have one player, Gerald Wallace, who has a great basketball IQ, so another one would be redundant. That’s why Nick Fazekas is the right choice here.

9
F
Joakim Noah
Florida
Sr.

The selection of Noah, an energetic, defensive minded forward, should be enough to get them to the conference finals next year provided they can trade him for Kevin Garnett.

10
F
Yi Jianlian
China
--

The Kings would be the best team to draft the Chinese guy because nobody really cares what they do.

11
F
Jeff Green
Georgetown
Jr.

The Hawks could end up wheeling and dealing this pick and there’s talk of swap with the Bulls, but that was just me and my roommate, so I wouldn’t put too much stock in it.

12
G
Mike Conley Jr.
Ohio State
Fr.

This kid can come in and contribute right away, which separates him from pretty much everyone else on the team.

13
C
Tiago Splitter
Spain
--

Trade idea: The Hornets trade #13 to Portland for Greg Oden and Zach Randolph. Why for the Hornets: They get the best player in the draft and a dependable low post scorer. Why for Portland: they get a chance at Tiago Splitter, who has an amazing wingspan.

14
G
Nick Young
USC
Jr.

The Clippers really wanted Jeff Green here, but I already used him on the 11th pick.

15
F
Al Thornton
Florida St
Sr.

I saw all I needed of Al Thornton last season while I was channel surfing on a Saturday afternoon. He rimmed out a jump shot and I was like, this is one of the best offensive players in the country?

16
F
Thaddeus Young
Georgia Tech
Fr.

The Wizards were an offensive powerhouse last year but they need to offset that with some quality defense. Young doesn’t play any defense at all, so they should draft him and then send him to the NBDL to show that they won’t tolerate people who don’t play defense.

17
G
Daequan Cook
Ohio State
Fr.

If the Nets really want to improve via the draft, they’ll draft a player, make him GM, and have him not resign Vince Carter.

18
G
Derrick Byars
Vanderbilt
Sr.

If the Warriors were smart they’d trade Baron Davis and build this team around Derrick Byars. I don’t know too much about Byars, but he’s 6-7 which makes him the appropriate height for an NBA player, IMO.

19
G
Gabe Pruitt
USC
Jr.

Love the Lakers or hate them, you can’t deny that the NBA is more entertaining when they have a crappy team.

20
G
Julian Wright
Kansas
Fr.

This kid has tremendous upside, but he didn’t put up big numbers in college. Perhaps the transition to a tougher, faster, and infinitely more complex league will be just what he needs.

21
F
Jason Smith
Colorado St
So.

The average margin of defeat for the Sixers last season was nine points. This kid averaged 16 per game in college, so expect them to go undefeated this year.

22
G
Petteri Koponen
Finland
--

If I were a fan of the Bobcats, I would be clamoring for Petteri Koponen, because I wouldn’t know what the hell I was talking about.

23
G
Marcus Williams
Arizona
So.

Marcus Williams is a smooth, athletic scorer who would fit right in with the Suns offensive attack. It's just too bad he's being drafted by the Knicks.

24
G
Rudy Fernandez
Spain
--

The Suns need some players who won’t jump off the bench to defend their teammates during altercations. This guy seems like a giant pussy so I would select him and stick him on the bench just in case a fight breaks out.

25
C
Marc Gasol
Spain
--

Spain is a hotbed for basketball players. Just look at Andre Kirilenko. He’s not from Spain and he sucks.

26
G
Javaris Crittenton
Georgia Tech
Fr.

The Rockets struck gold when they drafted Yao Ming a few years back, and now they’re looking to duplicate that success by going back to the draft and selecting another player.

27
C
Spencer Hawes
Washington
Fr.

Hawes is being mentioned in the same breath as Bill Russell, in that people are saying he couldn’t carry Bill Russell’s jock strap if he had a degree in jock strap carrying. Still, being mentioned in the same breath as Russell should warrant a late first round selection.

28
G
Rodney Stuckey
Eastern Washington
Fr.

It almost seems unfair that the Spurs get to add an extra player via the draft. Luckily there aren't any good ones left. Stuckey has a great football IQ though.

29
G
Marco Belinelli
Italy
--

The window of opportunity for the Suns to win a championship is closing rapidly, so they would be wise to panic here and trade this pick for Alonzo Mourning.

30
F
Alando Tucker
Wisconsin
Sr.

They should just take the best player available and apologize to him for ruining his life.
