WASHINGTON, DC--According to U.S. and Yemeni officials, Wizards guard Gilbert Arenas may have met with radical American-Yemeni cleric Anwar al-Awlaki in the months leading up to his confrontation with teammate Javaris Crittendon in the Wizards locker room. “We have indications that Mr. Arenas traveled to a mountainous region of Yemen to meet with Anwar al-Awlaki,” said a U.S. counter-terrorism official. “Apparently he exchanged emails with al-Awlaki last summer and made plans to travel there in September. We don’t know exactly what was discussed, but there are indications that it may have concerned Javaris Crittendon. The shocking thing is that the CIA knew Mr. Arenas had traveled to Yemen and purchased four hand guns and did nothing about it. Okay maybe it’s not that shocking." Following the incident, President Barack Obama suggested the CIA be replaced by the more thorough and resourceful NBA security services.
