KANSAS CITY, MO--Mike Aviles, infielder for the Triple-A Omaha Royals, received some bad news yesterday when he was informed he was being demoted to the club’s major league affiliate, the Kansas City Royals. Aviles said he was disappointed, but vowed to do whatever the club asked of him. “I’m disappointed, obviously. Nobody wants to be demoted,” Aviles said. “But sometimes you just have to do with the front office tells you to do. They obviously think I can get more consistent playing time in the majors and more opportunities to fine-tune my swing. Once I get back on track, hopefully I'll be back here where I belong.” Royals GM Dayton Moore was quick to point out that the demotion was “not a punishment” but a temporary assignment to help Aviles work on his mechanics.
